Growing up in Newburgh, IN. listening to the IMS Radio Network and the voices of Sid Collins, Paul Page, and Lou Palmer, Dave first attended the Indianapolis 500 in 1979. Combined, it began a love affair with IndyCar racing, which has only grown. A product of Indiana University, his broadcasting career started on the air at WBWB-FM in Bloomington, IN. and WTVW-TV in Evansville, IN. From there, he had stops at WLKY-TV (Louisville), WLFL-TV (Raleigh), WOWK-TV (Charleston) before returning to Indiana in 1997 to join WRTV-6 (Indianapolis), where he was named Sports Director in 2001. He’s received a number of AP and IBA awards since then, in addition to 19 Emmys – including many for his “Trackside 6” coverage of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Furst was honored to accept an invitation from anchor Mike King and general manager Wally Leavitt to make his debut on the IndyCar Radio Network at Watkins Glen in 2008. His first network pit reporting assignment at the Indy 500 came in 2013, fulfilling a childhood dream. Dave can also be heard on IMS public address during the month of May and NASCAR’s Brickyard 400.
